     Archibald Campbell, 10th Earl & 1st Duke of Argyll, Marquess of Kintyre & Lorne, Earl of Cowal, Viscount of Lochow & Glenila, Lord Inveraray, Mull, Morven, & Tiry was born on 10 October 1652 at of Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland.1 He married Elizabeth Tollemache, daughter of Sir Lionel Tollemache and Elizabeth Murray, on 12 March 1678; They had 2 sons (John, 2nd Duke of Argyll & Greenwich, married (1) (contract dated 30 December 1701) Mary, daughter of John Brown, Esq., niece of Sir Charles Duncombe, Lord Mayor of London (no issue), & (2) on 6 June 1717, to Jane, daughter of Thomas Warburton of Winnington, Cheshire, by whom he had 5 daughters (Caroline, wife of Francis, Earl of Dalkeith & of the Right Honorable Charles Townsend, brother of George, 1st Marquess of Townshend, with issue; Anne, wife of William, Earl of Stafford (no issue); Jane (died at age 12); Elizabeth, wife of the Right Honorable James Stuart Mackenzie of Rosehaugh, 2nd son of James, 2nd Earl of Bute, with no surviving issue; & Mary, wife of Edward, Viscount Coke, son & heir of Edward, Earl of Leicester & Margaret Tufton, Baroness Clifford) & Archibald, 3rd Duke of Argyll, no issue) & 2 daughters (Margaret; & Catherine).1 Archibald Campbell, 10th Earl & 1st Duke of Argyll, Marquess of Kintyre & Lorne, Earl of Cowal, Viscount of Lochow & Glenila, Lord Inveraray, Mull, Morven, & Tiry died on 28 September 1703 at Cherton House, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland, England, at age 50.4
