WILLISTON - The Reverend Martin P. Dienst, of Williston, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at age 92.

He was born in Palms, Mich. on Dec. 7, 1919, to Walter and Ida Dienst.

Martin Luther was his namesake and his parents instilled in him their Lutheran faith and encouraged him to become a minister. Martin's family moved to Detroit when he was a boy and that is where he spent most of his primary school years, followed by prep school for the ministry in Fort Wayne, Ind. He met his future wife, Dorothy Oertel, in 1939 at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Detroit, and the couple married on Sept. 9, 1944, after Martin graduated from the seminary in St. Louis, Mo. He then received his first call to be a Missionary at Large in Groton, Conn., until December of 1946. During the years that followed, Martin and Dorothy had six children, and Martin was called to serve congregations in Ruth, Mich., Palms, Mich., Kingston, N.Y., finally ending up as the pastor of Community Lutheran Church in South Burlington in 1961, where he served until his retirement in 1985. In 1976, during his tenure in South Burlington, Martin was elected New England District President of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, serving 97 congregations throughout the region until 1984. He was also very active in Kiwanis Club. Martin and Dorothy enjoyed traveling together and spending time with their large family. All who knew Martin appreciated his caring gentle spirit, his interesting stories and his clever wit.

Martin was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Ida Dienst; brothers, Laurence and Harold Dienst; daughter, Nina Carreira; daughter, Dorothy Dienst; and granddaughter, Janine Kuehn.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy; their children, Martha Peace and husband, Stuart, of Germany, Timothy Dienst and wife, Sandra, of Williston, Daniel Dienst and wife, Michele, of Stowe, and Sarah Dienst of Bennington; grandchildren and their spouses and great-grandchildren, James and Kim Carreira, and their children, Alexis, Samuel and Matthew; Christine and Carl Williamson, and their children, Mark, Max, Logan, and Avery; Stuart and Deborah Peace, and their daughter, Sofia; Deanna and David Luce; Erik Peace; Douglas and Meredith Dienst; Darren Dienst; Haley Dienst; Hillary Dienst; Alex Dienst; Laura and Craig Smith; Michelle and Jeremy Pearson; Jeffrey Chao; Dorothy and C.O. CARREIRA, Nina Pauline, R.N., 55, of Plantation, FL. Wife of the late Dr. Eleuterio Carreira and mother of a son and daughter of Plantation, FL, died Tuesday, November 27, 2001 following a three year battle with acute leukemia.

She is survived by her parents, Dorothy & Martin Dienst of Vermont; three sisters; Martha of Germany; Sarah of Vermont & Dorothy of Florida; two brothers; Timothy and Daniel of Vermont.

Nina worked most recently as an R.N. at Northwest Regional Medical Center from 1986 until her illness in October 1998. She was an active member at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Plantation, FL.

The family will receive friends from Friday, 2-4, 6-8 PM, at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 1, 2001 at 11 AM at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Lauderdale Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Of America Inc. - Southern Florida Chapter 3325 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, FL or Our Savior Lutheran Church, 8001 NW 5 Street Plantation, FL 33324. Funeral arrangements by T.M. Ralph Plantation Funeral Home.

he was assigned to the 540th Combat Engineer Battalion. The Army took him throughout North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany under the direction of General Patton. Bob’s guardian angel was definitely working overtime while he was in the war, he was in some treacherous situations, 7 out of 8 major battles to be exact. His courageous efforts in the war awarded him a Silver Star, which is the third highest award for valor in combat; he also received 7 battle stars for each of those battles he encountered. Bob’s three year military career was short lived but the experience and memories, good and bad, lasted him a lifetime.1

Robert “Bob” Feland was born on January 2, 1921 in Almont, the youngest of six children to Oscar and Nellie (Oslund) Feland. He attended country day school and farmed on the family farm until he was drafted into the Army on May 27, 1942 at the tender young age of 21. The Calvary was where Bob saw himself, but there was a bigger plan for him as he was assigned to the 540th Combat Engineer Battalion. Returning home in 1945, Bob met a young school teacher, Lorraine Nolan Grimm. With a brief courtship they were married in Wibaux, Montana on November 10, 1945. In 1946 Bob bought his father’s farm where he and Lorraine farmed and raised their two children, Deane and Patty. In 1955 Bob started working as a brand inspector for the North Dakota Stockman’s Association, he was the local brand inspector in Almont, and helped out in the Bismarck/Mandan area. Sadly, Lorraine lost her life in 1982 and Bob found himself starting over. Bob kept busy becoming a man of many trades, from auctioneering to shoeing horses on the side. Given a second chance at love, Bob met Dorothy Maas Banning and they were married on May 12, 1984.

Bob moved to Flasher where he and Dorothy entertained and welcomed their extended family and many friends. Bob always wearing his cowboy hat became quite the fixture in Flasher, driving around town on his red three-wheeler or announcing the annual parade festivities and becoming quite the story teller. Through the years, Bob and Dorothy enjoyed restoring homes, seeking out garage sales, playing a competitive game of cards, and opening their doors to anyone who crossed their paths. Father time finally caught up with Bob, at 82 he hung up his farrier equipment and shoed his last horse. Bob eventually entered care at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem in 2012. When asked, Bob said he adjusted there just fine; it seemed like being back home as he had a lot of relatives there and many more would come to make frequent visits. Bob was a character and made quite the impression, you would find him in the common area joining in on singing, some days he would be on key but most days not so much. Dorothy joined Bob at Elm Crest in 2013, where they were able to spend some precious time together until her death in 2014. When Bob’s health declined, it still didn’t stop him from welcoming you into “his home”, he was still able to share stories and life lessons to you just by living.

Bob will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Alan (Patti) Hoovestol, Mandan; Kai (Amy) Feland, Moorhead, MN; Marlo (Shawn) Haugom, Ashley, ND; Travis (Monique) Hoovestol, Flagstaff, AZ; and Karla (Brandon) Smith, St. Louis Park, MN; his step grandchildren, who he cherished as if they were his own, Brian (Shelby) Banning, Littleton, CO; Raymond (Lizzy) Banning IV, Littleton, CO; Sarah (Jose) Vega, Winnsboro TX; Amber Banning and fiancée Anthony Pacheco, Chesterfield, MO; and Brooke Banning, Steamboat Springs, CO; 8 great grandchildren, Jayce, Cameron, Tyler, Trey, Ulrick, Mariesa, Alisia, Sheldon, Preston, and Baby Boy Vega arriving in October; and 6 great great grandchildren.

Bob embraced Dorothy’s family when they married and her sons, Kevin Banning and Kory (Penny) Banning, Flasher; and Kim Banning, Steamboat Springs, CO; special daughter, Martha Stribling, Kearney, NE; and son-in-law, Duane (Angie) Hoovestol, Cottonwood, AZ. They will forever feel the void of his loss along with his numerous nieces, nephews and many people who were blessed to call Bob a friend.

Bob was preceded in death by his wives, Lorraine and Dorothy; his parents; three brothers, Cliff Lauzon and Rudy and Richard Feland; two sisters, Ermine Bond and Charlotte Johnson; his children, Deane Feland and Patty Hoovestol; and stepson, Raymond Banning III .

Wilma was born July 15, 1933 at Bottineau, North Dakota the daughter of Martin and Ruth (Myles) Thom. She grew up in the rural Kramer area and attended schools in Bottineau and Kramer, graduating from Kramer High School. She continued her education at Minot State College, where she received her standard teaching certificate. Wilma taught at a country school near Upham. While teaching there, she met Virgil Kitzman and they were united in marriage at Zion Lutheran Church, Kramer, in 1952. They made their home on a farm west of Upham where they raised their four children. They operated the family farm and ranch until Virgil died in 1984.

Wilma married Alfred Entzel at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Upham in 1985 and moved to Minot. He died in 1989. She continued to live in Minot, working at the Diet Center and UND Center for Family Medicine. In 2001 she married Donald Gust at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot.

Wilma was a faithful servant of God, trusting and placing her hope in Jesus her Savior, and knowing one day she would be in heaven - her eternal home. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. She was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Upham, and later St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot. Wilma taught many young children about God's love for them throughout the years. She was also very involved with the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, holding local and state offices. Wilma was a seamstress, gardener, painter, and long time member of the Little Deep Club. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren brought her much love, joy, and pride until the very end.

Her loving family includes: husband, Donald Gust, Minot; children: John (Wanda) Kitzman, Upham, Jean (Danny) Brandt, Kramer, Carol (Timothy) Debele, Kramer, and Emily (Terry) Lafrentz, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren: Shawn (Melodie), Shannon, Jessica, Joseph (Heather), Lucas, Beth, Brett, Kate; great grandchildren: Wyatt (Kyleen), Chance, Skyler, Grace, Cailyn, Jacob; step children: Sheila, Tracy, Colleen (Randy) and family, Monte (deceased); siblings: Marvin (Harriet) Thom, Bottineau, Darlyne Froseth, Bottineau, Leila (Lester) Johnson, Bottineau, and Mark Thom, Kramer; sister-in-law, Lila Thompson, Minot; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and her Visiting Angels, Shamonique and Christina.

Monte Jay Entzel was born February 15, 1957 in Bismarck, ND, son of Alfred and Lenis (Grimm) Entzel. The family then lived in Stanton, Ray, and finally, Minot, ND where Monte graduated high school in 1976. His youthful interests included coin collecting, rocketry, outer space and the Star Trek Tv shows and movies. He also enjoyed extended family gatherings and time at the family farm in Mandan. He was previously a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran church in Minot. As a young adult, Monte became afflicted with schizophrenia, leaving him unable to maintain employment, and he battled the mental disorder for the rest of his life. He was a tall, quiet, yet strong willed man, referred to as “the Gentle Giant” by some. For most of his adult life he resided in Williston, ND, where he initially took part in activities and outings at NW Human Service Center. While walking to church one day, he was hit by a car and suffered a head injury, which increased his disability. Failing health led to his transfer to the nursing home in fall 2013. Following a brief stay at Trinity Hospital in Minot, Monte suffered a cardiac arrest, as a consequence of aspiration pneumonia.

He is survived by: sister, Colleen Pfeilschiefter, her husband, Randy, of Federal Way, Washington; niece, Kate Pfeilschiefter, Redmond, Washington; niece, Jenna Neaves, Federal Way, Washington; great nephew, Jacob Neaves, Federal Way, Washington; plus several aunts, uncles and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Entzel; mother, Lenis Entzel, aunt, Lorene Rothfusz, aunt, Deloris Flatau; aunt, Lorene Feland; paternal grandparents, Henry and Mathilda Entzel; maternal grandparents, Albert and Mae Grimm.
