Katherine Carmichael was born circa 1515 at of Meadowflat, Lanarkshire, Scotland. She married Sir John Somerville, 3rd Baron Cambusnethan, son of Sir John Somerville, 2nd Baron Cambusnethan and Margaret Graham, in 1537.2 Katherine Carmichael died in March 1550.2

     Jane Hepburne married John Stewart, 1st Lord Darnley, son of James V Stewart, King of Scotland and Katherine Carmichael, on 28 December 1561 at Crichton Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland; They had 1 son (Francis, 2nd Lord Darnley, Lord Badenoch, Earl of Bothwell). He also had an illegitimate son (Hercules of Whitelaw) & 1 illegitimate daughter (Margaret, wife of William Sinclair of Underhoull, & of William Bruce of Symbister.)3,2 Jane Hepburne married John Sinclair, Master of Caithness, son of George Sinclair, 4th Earl of Caithness and Elizabeth Graham, before 16 January 1567.2 Jane Hepburne married Master Archibald Douglas, Rector of Douglas, Parson of Glasgow, Ambassador to England, Senator of the College of Justice, son of William Douglas and Elizabeth Lauder, after 1573.3,2 Jane Hepburne died after 6 April 1581.3,2
