     Robert Vale was born on 13 December 1716 at London, Middlesex, England; • General History: The Son of Baron De Vale of Normandy - Robert Vale the First, 1716 - August 17, 1799 , London, England and Warrington, York County, Pennsylvania, York County, Pennsylvaina. R obert Vale, ancestor and progenitor of the Vales of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and many of the other states, was born in London in the year 1716, was a well educated man, below medium height, and became a captain of a vessel sailing between England and America. He was admitted to membership in the Society of Friends at the Monthly Meeting at Sadsbury, England, 7th month, 17th day, the year of 1744. For having become a member of this sect - a disciple of William Penn - his father, Baron De Vale of Normandy, disinherited and disowned him. After joining the Society of Friends he changed his name to plain Robert Vale and it appears that he taught a night school in London for a time. Soon an opportunity came to sail a ship for a colony of Friends setting out from England for Pennsylvania. For this service he recieved a warrant for a tract of 1,000 acres of land " in the Barrens" located in Warrington Township, York, Pennsylvania. Subsequently he received a warrant for and additional tract of 124 1/2 acres located in the same neighborhood.

Among those who took passage in Robert Vale's ship for Philadelphia was a young woman from Dublin, Ireland, formerly of Wales. She had been robbed of her passage money - twenty pounds - and was greatly embarrassed and distressed. When brought before Captain Robert Vale, she gave her name - Sarah Buller - and stated the circumstances of her misfortune. Impressed by her candor and conduct he paid her passage, later renewed his acquaintance with her in Philadelphia and they were married at the Friends' meeting house at Warrington the first month, fourteenth day, the year 1750. Robert Vale's homestead was located about two miles from the Warrington meeting house, he lived in the midst of a community of Friends, was an influential and respected member of the Colony and Society, and died there the eighth month, seventeenth day, 1799, age 83. His body lies buried in the Friends' burying-ground by the old meeting house at Warrington. His will is on record in York County, was probated the eighth month, twentieth day, year 1799.¹ He married Sarah Buller on 14 January 1750 at Warrington, Bucks, PA.¹ Robert Vale died on 17 August 1799 at Warrington, Bucks, PA, at age 82; Buried at Warrington Friends Meeting House Cemetery, Wellsville, York, PA.¹ His estate was probated on 20 August 1799 at York, PA.¹
