Those 3 were legitimated in 1546. However, because Grissel was the second of that name and due to the date of Grissel's marriage, I conclude that she was also the daughter of Elizabeth Carlisle.3,4 Elizabeth Carlisle was born circa 1504 at Torthorwald, Dumfries-shire, England.1,2

     Isabel Arbuthnott was born circa 1510 at of Arbuthnott, Kincardineshire, Scotland.1,2 She married David Ochterlony before 1531.1 Isabel Arbuthnott married Robert Maule, son of Sir Thomas Maule and Elizabeth Rollock, in 1545; They had 3 sons (Henry of Skryne; Andrew of Gourdie; & William) & 1 daughter (Marjorie, wife of Andrew Guthrie).1,2 Isabel Arbuthnott died in 1558.2

     James Arbuthnott was born at of Arbuthnott, Kincardineshire, Scotland.1 A contract for the marriage of James Arbuthnott and Jean Stewart was signed on 31 August 1507; They had 3 sons (Robert of Arbuthnott; Patrick; & David, Rector of Menmuir) & 1 daughter (Isabel, wife of David Ochterlony, & of Robert Maule).6,2,3 James Arbuthnott left a will on 7 March 1521.2 He died before 13 March 1521.1,2

     Robert Arbuthnott, 14th Laird Arbuthnott was born circa 1508 at of Arbuthnott, Kincardine, Scotland.1 He married Christian Keith, daughter of Robert Keith, Lord Keith and Elizabeth (Beatrix) Douglas, after 15 June 1529; They had 4 sons & 5 daughters.1 Robert Arbuthnott, 14th Laird Arbuthnott married Helen Clephane, daughter of George Clephane and Christian Learmonth, before 13 April 1558.3,4 Robert Arbuthnott, 14th Laird Arbuthnott died on 15 October 1579 at Arbuthnott, Kincardineshire, Scotland.1
