But, Sir John Elphinstone did have his lands in Elphinstone from Sir Alexander Seton of Seton, so he may have been Margaret's father. If so, she would have been the daughter of Sir Alexander Seton and Christian le Cheyne (they had no surviving MALE issue). However, the Margaret Seton daughter of this couple married Alan of Wyntoun, not John Elphinstone. So, at this point, her ancestry is unknown.1 She married Sir John Elphinstone, Laird of Elphinstone, son of Alexander Elphinstone, circa 1322 at Scotland.1
