When the family moved from Canada to New York, the father (Jean Baptiste Lavoix) change the surname from Lavoie to Dewey and he became John Dewey.1,3,2 She married John Carl circa 1837 at NY; Eldest child was 12 in 1850 and was born in NY.1,4 Emily Dewey died on 19 March 1898 at Menlo, Guthrie, IA, at age 79; Buried at Menlo Cemetery. Grave stone looks like she was 79 years, 9 months and 21 days when she died, but picture is not very good.1
